Centuria History

Centuria was founded as Synapse Inc. in 1996 by an Oracle Certified Professional and former Marine, Kevin M. Burke. Synapse was founded to create an environment where consultants were respected and families came first. Based on these business principles, Synapse rapidly grew from one to over thirty billable consultants between 1997 and 2001 achieving greater than 100% growth annually for four years.

In 2001 Synapse received funding from outside investors and changed its company focus with a goal of establishing itself in the “dot.com” world. Synapse immediately developed an Internet centered patient flow system to include software and consulting services focused on driving efficiencies within the private medical practice. Synapse was successful in selling and installing the system in 12 private medical practices in six states, within many of which the product is still in use today.

In late 2002 the realization that the dot.com model was not meeting financial targets prompted Synapse to be split into two companies. The dot.com company was sold to outside investors and “Centuria” was formed and immediately acquired Synapse”s long-standing, and still profitable, government consulting arm.

“There is no question that the experience in the Internet market space was the single most informative, instructional and valuable period in Centuria’s History. Success teaches you little - struggle teaches you everything” Kevin M. Burke.

With hard-learned lessons, and a new plan in place, Centuria focused again on its roots in consulting services and the government marketplace.

In 2005 Centuria received certification as a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business and won its first two prime contracts with TSA and VA. Centuria was also awarded a significant subcontract within TSA.

In 2006 Centuria returned to its history of triple digit growth exceeding 2005 gross revenues by 104%. Centuria was awarded a prime contract to provide nationwide support to the NCA and a seat on GSA’s historic Veterans Technology Services (VETS) GWAC (on which we received over 30% of all awarded dollars in the vehicles first year of operation). Centuria was also awarded two key subcontracts to provide services to the State Department and the Patent and Trademark Office.

From January to August of 2007 Centuria experienced an explosion in growth with the win on the FS I-Web program, the PTO program, and the NVC program adding 70 professionals in just 8 months! The award of the FS I-Web Program capped off this growth with 38 new professionals alone!

In 2008 Centuria was recognized by Inc. Magazine, Federal Times, Deloitte and Washington Technology for its incredible growth pattern, while maintaining a 95% customer satisfaction rating (as measured by D&B Open Ratings).

Today Centuria stands as the #1 VETS Awardee on the Inc. 500, #2 VETS Awardee in Obligated dollars against the VETS Contract, and #3 VETS Awardee based on overall GWAC dollar obligations (Federal Times).

In 2009 we expect to repeat all of the growth awards we received in 2008 with higher rankings on each, but most importantly we continue to improve our management processes to ensure our customer satisfaction ratings continue to shine.
